The artist has given the entirety of his £25k honor prize money to the MVT, which functions to protect the UK's small music venues.

The star was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his third album People Watching was named the top album of the past year.

He has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role small stages fulfilled in his early career.

"I couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was starting out," remarked Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists like Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their admission fees, which benefits local stages.

Fender also joined in, raising more than £100,000 on his live tour to support numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money assisted venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues caused by floods, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Some locations received financial assistance in improving amenities and technical equipment that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The notion that funds from performances in major spaces backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has stated.

The musician is not the first artist to contribute his honor prize money to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their record their work, lead singer the singer announced that the act would donate their winnings to the charity the charity.

That year, artist the artist split her prize across multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a thousand pounds to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," the artist explained to a publication.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their prize money to the youth organization that developed their act, in addition to other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients they contributed their prize to a charity for MS after a close contact was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked vocalist Small. "The cash was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT revealed it had rescued several local spots in the South East, by transferring them to local control.

The first in that area and the other in Bristol were bought under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the venues.
